| Advisory ID | SGZ-2026-31192 |
| Severity | MEDIUM |
| CWE | CWE-20 |
| Confidence | 85% |
| Category | logic_flaw |
| Exploitability | possible |
| Package | main@latest (golang) |
| Location | secrets.go:20-22 |
| Attack Vector | LOCAL |
| Attack Complexity | LOW |
| Privileges Required | LOW |
| Discovered By | SafeGuard Zero-Day AI Discovery Engine |
The createSecrets function reads secret files using os.ReadFile but discards any error. If reading fails (e.g., due to permission issues or corrupted files), the function proceeds with an empty secret value, potentially creating empty or unintended secrets in the repository.
The vulnerability was identified in the file secrets.go at lines 20-22 within the main package (version latest). Any code path that invokes these functions inherits this vulnerability.
File: secrets.go (lines 20-22)
secretData, _ := os.ReadFile(path.Join(secretsFrom, f.Name()))
encryptedVal, err := encryptSecret(key, strings.TrimSpace(string(secretData)))
The code above demonstrates the vulnerable pattern. This code is executed at runtime and can be directly exploited by an attacker with the appropriate access level.
An attacker who can cause a file read error (e.g., by manipulating file permissions) can cause the system to store empty secrets, potentially breaking downstream authentication or allowing injection of default values.
Creation of empty or incorrect secrets may lead to authentication failures or unintended access if downstream services treat empty values as defaults.
Check and handle the error returned by os.ReadFile. Abort or skip secret creation if reading fails, and log the error appropriately.
Advisory: SGZ-2026-31192 | Source: SafeGuard Zero-Day AI Discovery | Status: Candidate
This vulnerability was autonomously discovered by SafeGuard's AI-powered Zero-Day Discovery engine using TAOR (Think-Act-Observe-Repeat) agentic analysis on the package source code. It is not yet tracked in any public vulnerability database (CVE, NVD, GHSA, OSV). This finding should be triaged by a security engineer and, if confirmed, reported upstream to the package maintainer.
