| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Advisory ID | SGZ-2026-557B9 |
| Severity | HIGH |
| CWE | CWE-327 |
| Confidence | 92% |
| Category | crypto_misuse |
| Exploitability | possible |
| Package | main@latest (golang) |
| Location | secrets.go:31-36 |
| Attack Vector | NETWORK |
| Attack Complexity | LOW |
| Privileges Required | NONE |
| Discovered By | SafeGuard Zero-Day AI Discovery Engine |
The encryptSecret function decodes the GitHub public key from base64 but then incorrectly passes the raw byte slice to box.SealAnonymous instead of the required 32-byte array. This misuse can lead to malformed encryption, potential panics, and insecure handling of secrets, violating proper cryptographic practices.
The vulnerability was identified in the file secrets.go at lines 31-36 within the main package (version latest). Any code path that invokes these functions inherits this vulnerability.
File: secrets.go (lines 31-36)
publicKeyBytes, err := base64.StdEncoding.DecodeString(publicKey.GetKey())
var publicKeyDecoded [32]byte
copy(publicKeyDecoded[:], publicKeyBytes)
encrypted, err := box.SealAnonymous(nil, []byte(secret), (*[32]byte)(publicKeyBytes), rand.Reader)
The code above demonstrates the vulnerable pattern. This code is executed at runtime and can be directly exploited by an attacker with the appropriate access level.
An attacker who can influence the public key (e.g., via compromised GitHub repository) could cause the encryption to use an invalid key, leading to predictable ciphertext or runtime panic, allowing extraction or denial of secret storage.
Secrets may be stored insecurely or cause service disruption, leading to credential leakage or denial of secret provisioning.
Decode the public key into a fixed-size [32]byte array and pass that array to box.SealAnonymous. Verify the decoded length is exactly 32 bytes before encryption.
Advisory: SGZ-2026-557B9 | Source: SafeGuard Zero-Day AI Discovery | Status: Candidate
This vulnerability was autonomously discovered by SafeGuard's AI-powered Zero-Day Discovery engine using TAOR (Think-Act-Observe-Repeat) agentic analysis on the package source code. It is not yet tracked in any public vulnerability database (CVE, NVD, GHSA, OSV). This finding should be triaged by a security engineer and, if confirmed, reported upstream to the package maintainer.
