| Advisory ID | SGZ-2026-BE414 |
| Severity | MEDIUM |
| CWE | CWE-22 |
| Confidence | 85% |
| Category | injection |
| Exploitability | likely |
| Package | 065ae123-6a39-4738-ac19-b1f7af618024@latest (github) |
| Location | plugins/operators/adios2_seal_keygen.py:22-31 |
| Attack Vector | LOCAL |
| Attack Complexity | LOW |
| Privileges Required | LOW |
| Discovered By | SafeGuard Zero-Day AI Discovery Engine |
The script accepts user‑supplied file paths for the public and secret keys and opens them directly with open() in write mode without any validation or path sanitisation. An attacker can supply absolute or relative paths (e.g., '../../etc/passwd') to cause the script to overwrite arbitrary files when run with sufficient privileges.
The vulnerability was identified in the file plugins/operators/adios2_seal_keygen.py at lines 22-31 within the 065ae123-6a39-4738-ac19-b1f7af618024 package (version latest). Any code path that invokes these functions inherits this vulnerability.
File: plugins/operators/adios2_seal_keygen.py (lines 22-31)
open(a.secret_key_file, "wb").write(sk.encode())
...
open(a.public_key_file, "wb").write(pk.encode())
The code above demonstrates the vulnerable pattern. This code is executed at runtime and can be directly exploited by an attacker with the appropriate access level.
Invoke the script with crafted paths such as '../../etc/passwd' for the public_key_file or secret_key_file arguments while running as a privileged user. The script will overwrite the target file with key material.
Overwrites critical system files, leading to potential privilege escalation or denial of service.
Validate that supplied paths resolve within an allowed directory (e.g., using pathlib.Path.resolve() and comparing with a whitelist). Open files with mode 'xb' to prevent overwriting and set restrictive permissions. Consider using a dedicated key storage directory.
Advisory: SGZ-2026-BE414 | Source: SafeGuard Zero-Day AI Discovery | Status: Candidate
This vulnerability was autonomously discovered by SafeGuard's AI-powered Zero-Day Discovery engine using TAOR (Think-Act-Observe-Repeat) agentic analysis on the package source code. It is not yet tracked in any public vulnerability database (CVE, NVD, GHSA, OSV). This finding should be triaged by a security engineer and, if confirmed, reported upstream to the package maintainer.
