| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Advisory ID | SGZ-2026-D7CEB |
| Severity | MEDIUM |
| CWE | CWE-22 |
| Confidence | 92% |
| Category | path_traversal |
| Exploitability | possible |
| Package | fspoll@latest (golang) |
| Location | fspoll/poller.go:55-58 |
| Attack Vector | NETWORK |
| Attack Complexity | LOW |
| Privileges Required | NONE |
| Discovered By | SafeGuard Zero-Day AI Discovery Engine |
The Poller.Add method accepts an arbitrary file system path from the caller and directly calls os.Stat on it without any validation or restriction to a safe directory. An attacker-controlled path (e.g., '../../etc/passwd') can cause the watcher to monitor sensitive files, leading to information disclosure about file existence and changes, which can be leveraged for further attacks.
The vulnerability was identified in the file fspoll/poller.go at lines 55-58 within the fspoll package (version latest). Any code path that invokes these functions inherits this vulnerability.
File: fspoll/poller.go (lines 55-58)
fi, err := os.Stat(name)\nif err != nil {\n return err\n}\n// ... later used to start polling on the provided path
The code above demonstrates the vulnerable pattern. This code is executed at runtime and can be directly exploited by an attacker with the appropriate access level.
Supply a crafted relative path (e.g., "../../../../etc/passwd") to Poller.Add, causing the watcher to monitor a sensitive file. Observe events channel for change notifications, confirming file existence and modifications.
Information disclosure of file existence and change events, enabling targeted attacks or data exfiltration.
Validate the provided path against an allowlist of directories or enforce a sandboxed root directory. Reject paths containing ".." or that resolve outside the allowed base directory before calling os.Stat.
Advisory: SGZ-2026-D7CEB | Source: SafeGuard Zero-Day AI Discovery | Status: Candidate
This vulnerability was autonomously discovered by SafeGuard's AI-powered Zero-Day Discovery engine using TAOR (Think-Act-Observe-Repeat) agentic analysis on the package source code. It is not yet tracked in any public vulnerability database (CVE, NVD, GHSA, OSV). This finding should be triaged by a security engineer and, if confirmed, reported upstream to the package maintainer.
